Ways to Ease the Transition from College to a Career

Some students turn out to be unprofitable after graduation from the college. The process of transition from study to work can be painful. How to go through this hard period and not to discourage yourself from work, let’s look at this article.
The reasons for the difficulties of the transition can be different:

1. Missing of information (young generation can feel lack of knowledge about the previous history of a company, its reputation)

Before sending your resume to the company, learn about it literally everything that can be learned: history, corporate values, management system, competitive position, number of employees, working conditions, the reputation of the company in and out of the country, etc. The more thoroughly you are prepared, the more likely you are to be quickly and painlessly join the team.

2. Structural discrepancy (education does not meet the qualitative requirements of demand for labor)

In the conditions of rapid development of the industry, the knowledge that students receive while studying in the college is becoming obsolete. Employers expect from employees to be able to do assignments and solve real issues, just the availability of a diploma is not enough. The main emphasis is on your skills, which can benefit and profit the company. Therefore, it will not hurt to keep abreast of the development of new trends in the industry and, in addition to the core curriculum to be engaged in self-education.

3. Competing for workplaces with older generations

Newly-trained specialists find it difficult to compete with their older colleagues. But their many years of experience should not provide pressure on your self-esteem, but stimulate your desire for professional growth. Turn their mastery to an advantage for you. Remember that everyone – even the guru of his business – once was starting from the very beginning, as you are now. Employers like loyal, attentive and talented employees, and they are ready to provide them with equal opportunities for achieving the best results.

4. Low or inadequate qualifications (no experience, lack of needed skills)

If you just graduated from college and are not much experienced, but you master necessary for the job skills, then most likely employers will willingly give you a chance. These skills include the ability to express your thoughts in written and spoken form, work in a team, master foreign languages, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, listening, selling, etc.

5. Low involvement in the professional, social networks that provide access to workplaces

Networking is something between the art and science of constructing professional relationships, but only some of us can do it naturally. These are business contacts, presented in large numbers. The network of these contacts includes many useful acquaintances who are interested in your ideas, projects and working skills. The more people you meet, the greater are the chances of finding the implementation of your potential.
